Better Luck Next Game, Timbers! Love, Newman

Our Timbers suffered a disappointing 3-2 home loss to D.C. United this afternoon. Despite our loss, the game was a blast-action packed at every turn with a couple near game changers in the last three minutes. We went with our friends Mandy and Julie, both of their first Timbers experience and only my third. I think it’s safe to say that the three of us ladies (and Aaron) are very excited about the rest of the season!

Jeld Wen Field being a humans-only establishment and all, Newman cheered from the sidelines at Casa Day La Burget. At home or on the field, when he roots, he roots for the Timbers!

When Portland dogs root, they root for the Timbers!

We Are Timbers. Even WE Are.

If you live in Portland right now, it is impossible to miss the ‘We are Timbers’ promotional campaign plastered across billboard, building and bus shelter city-wide. Walk down the street and it smacks you right in the face.

If you don’t live in Portland… We (Portlanders) desperately want to get behind a major league team other than the Trailblazers. We were blessed with an MLS team this year. We love soccer. We have a scary Timbers Army. We get a giant ad campaign that makes hipster Portland AND the scary Timbers Army happy. We plaster giant ad campaign everywhere. Just try to ignore it. It will chase you down because it’s tough like that. And cool like that-just like Portland.

It chased us down not on the street but at the Timbers’ corporate sponsor appreciation dinner where we got to try on our best, scary scowls for the Timbers’ photographer.

Turns out that we might be Timbers, but some of us are not as tough as others-and by us I mean me, of course.
